Imagine the benefits that would accrue from a solar array that covers the roof of a grocery store or a big box retailer! Reducing energy use and choosing renewable energy don’t just help the environment, they can lower overhead.

Ideas

Quincy CAN seeks ideas for how we can best work with the local business community. Here are a few ideas we’ve been talking about:

QCAN Green business certification – Under this proposed program, we would work with businesses to set up a program to identify businesses that use energy wisely, providing media publicity, a directory, and attractive door stickers that would attract customers who “vote with their dollars.”
Business forum – At these events, businesses would share green energy best practices and success stories. Businesses of all sizes could create a community of support and shared experience.
Green week – Following in the footsteps of restaurant week, this week-long event would offer special publicity for QCAN-certified businesses; it would be a natural counterpart to Cleaner Greener Quincy, or a related citywide event.
Solar Saturday – Each October, this program allows the public to tour homes fitted with solar panels in many communities, including Quincy. Potential exists to incorporate tours of businesses as well.

Incentives

Solarize Quincy, with QCAN as the main source of volunteers, allowed Quincy residents and businesses to install solar power at a below-market rates. While the program was time-limited, QCAN will be looking for similar opportunities for businesses that want to install or buy renewable energy use energy more efficiently.

Gain visibility for your business and support QCAN’s mission by sponsoring an energy-efficiency event, donating environmentally-friendly materials for one of our projects, or donating energy-friendly items to be given away at our upcoming outreach activities.
